Reviews of Islamic Swimsuits

Since publishing my various posts on islamic swimsuits (here, here and here) I have had about 2000 hits solely for these posts, my most popular posts of all. Most of the comments I received were from companies which manufacture such suits advertising their products, which has been absolutely fantastic! In this post I will post sample pictures from each website of the suits with a short summary of what each one offers. If anyone has tried any of them, I would like to hear from you, and I can incorporate your comments/reviews into this blog.

Burqini

“Aheda seems to design mostly for those heavily into sports” [Um Reem]

Country of Origin Australia

Company Name: Ahiida Website www.ahiida.com

Description: 100% polyester, 50+ UV protected, water resistant, water repellent, low water absorbency and quick to try. They come in three catergories: slim-fit, modest-fit and active-fit Images: burqini-modest.jpgburqini-active.jpg Notes: I believe this suit is available in the UK. It costs nearly £65. Phone: 0845 052 4686. Now also available in the UK online (retails at 80 GBP) http://modestswimsuits.co.uk/ Customer Reviews:

The material is great, and it is very easy to swim in. It doesn’t tend to do the blow-fish look in the water, and the pants/shirt tie together on the inside. There are only two downsides I found to the suit: (1) The headpiece which is attached to the top, tends to be too tight on my neck. Very petite types may not notice this as much as myself, though. (2) Although very functional, not very fashionable (however, the newer models are looking much more stylish). Aheda seems to design mostly for those heavily into sports, and this swimsuit definately hits the mark for those who need the headpiece to stay in place when they are competing. I went to the pool with my children today (10, 4 and 2), and wore my suit from ahiida. I must say that I even though the neck was a little tight, it was so much easier having the hood attached when my 2 little ones were grabbing away at my suit. I did’t have to fix the headpiece once!!! [Thanks to Um Reem] I bought Ahiida swimsuit ( slim fit unfortunatly) when everybody was praising burqini. And I am not pleased with it. 1) Their trousers are tight so I can’t wear them. I don’t understand how it can be called a modest swimwear if pants are tight? So I had to wear dress trousers instead of burquini’s in the pool . :( 2) Burquini Headpiece( hijhood) are also poorly designed, It makes my head looks ugly and slips back all the time. It is sooo frustrating that I have to wear amira hjab on it. :( Also hijhood has stitches that lay right on my ears which causes pain and discomfort in my ears. 3) Slim fit top a bit short, but with my splashgear pants it looks modest. Splashgear:

Country of Origin: USA

Website: www.splashgearusa.com

Description: based on the gear surfers wear. This product is, made of lightweight and quick-drying 83% Nylon 17% Lycra constructed with flatlock seams for comfort, fabric provides UV protection Images splashgear 1in the water–splashgear Notes : this is available in Bristol (UK) and Dubai (UAE) check website for further details. Customer Review: I reviewed this suit here, I have used it several times since and I absolutley LOVE it. A summary:

From a practical perspective, the suit was good. Swimming was easy, and I just need to get used to having something next to my skin while swimming. It did introduce extra resistance while doing the aqua exercises, and the trousers did balloon while I was standing. I think next time I will get the narrower leg trousers (I got the wide leg ones). When you exit the water the top does stick but a quick tug at the bottom loosens it immediately, this is something that was made clear by the manufacturers though. In all, if asked, I would give the suit 9/10. Marks deducted for the head piece, and 1/2 for increased resistance (if only very slight). [Thanks to Loolt] Luckily I found SPLASHGEAR website and bought swim pants from them. They are really lose and comfortable that’s what I call modest. [Thanks to Muslima]

MyCozzie

Country of Origin: United Arab Emirates (UAE)

Website: www.mycozzie.com

Description: Images mycozzie1mycozzie2 Notes: This is available in Mall of the Emirates, Dubai.

Customer Reviews: I ordered a couple from MyCozzie, and couldn’t wait to try them out. Their design is incredibly cute, and stylish, but the material is not so great. The light colors become see-through when they get wet (the white became completely transparent), and the material holds way too much water. The pant leg stretched out under my feet when I got out of the water. This company has great potential with the design, but needs to reevaluate the fabric. The one plus is that the design of the hijab is really great. It stays on while swimming much better than the design from Hasema. [Thanks to Um Reem] I bought mycozzie swimwear for my daughter and I. The customer service was absolutely outstanding and delivery time was next day. As fashion concious woman who wears the latest in fashion, I cannot fault mycozzie. It lives up to their reputation of conservative but fashionable swimwear. [Thanks to Fatima] MyCozzie rocks……!!!!!!! Theyre gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They sell them in Dubai and online. The customer service is amazing. They even delivered same day as ordering. I now have 3 suits and I mix and match the tops to the pants and hoodie it gives me so much flexibility and my kids think I look great. Off to Atlantis this weekend!!! Thankyou mycozzie x [Thanks to Jenny] I actually bought the MyCozzie suit a year ago, and decided to ‘test’ it at a women only swimming session. I was so pleased it was women only because after only one length of the pool, I had to take the trousers off, they had stretched to below my feet, making swimming difficult 😦 I dont know if other people have had this problem too. My sister has one but has only used it for water sports like kayaking and it is fine for such things. [from loolt]

AquaGym:

Country of Origin: Brazil Website: http://www.acquagymbrazil.com/ Description: Images aquagym Reviews:

I did receive the suit from Primomoda, and it is not the same as the one that my friend received from AcquaGym. The cut is slightly different, and the pants are the same as the ones that AcquaGym puts with the “comfort fit” design. I preferred the fit of the suit that my friend ordered directly from Brazil. She did not have any trouble getting ahold of the guy from Acquagym, and she actually requested the “comfort fit” pants to go with the zip premium. She also ordered one of the suits that did not zip (which, by the way is nearly an exact copy of the original design by Aheda Zanetti). She really loves both, and after trying on hers, and the one I bought, I definately liked hers better. The zipper on the one I ordered was very rigid, and hit me right in the jawbone everytime I turned my head. I couldn’t stand it on my head for more than about 5 seconds. However, my friend’s suit (she and I are the same size) fit perfectly, and did not have the same zipper issue. She tried on my suit, and did not like it as well. As you can tell, I really like her suit better. I returned mine, and will probably order one from Brazil. […] On the sizing for Acuagym […]. The measurements are body measurements, and seem to be true to size based on the one that my friend orderd. [Thanks to Um Reem]

I love the color (purple with light print and trim)…it is the Comfort 105 in their lookbook. It looks very fashionable… As for the fit, the pant fits very nicely (elegant fit), the top is a bit larger and reached to my knees (I am 5′ 2″)… slightly longer than on the model…which is fine with me. The headpiece was large too, I pulled and held it with a pin at the back of my neck! In the water, the top tends to ride up (very slightly)…I think the “burqini” has inside ties…which addresses this problem. Once out of the water….the suit clings to you but a quick tug and it is released and hangs loosely. I like it so much and I enjoyed swimming (playing with my 2 yrs.old daughter!!!). It was fun and very nice to be in the water again! The looks really doesn’t matter (I was expecting it!)…I think it is curiosity more than anything else. I felt good and comfortable wearing it and was happy to participate in an activity in a way that doesn’t compromise my need for modesty and style! Ordering was a breeze…I recieved the order within 2 wks of purchase. Their customer support is great…very courteous, helpful and accomodating. The order was shiped and custom cleared in 5 days only! I definitely recommend this product. [Thanks to Um Reem]

Hasema

Country of Origin: Turkey Website: http://www.hasema.com Description: Images Customer Review: Nido has tried the first suit, and here is what she has to say about it:

I love it! It is so comfortable! easy to wear and to swim while wearng it! I used it in swimming pools and in the sea…the vest top is water resistant, and it stays loose! The 3 other parts’ material is like any other swimming suit… Can’t wait for summer time to swim outdoors D This is a review for the same suir that Jeedo has Last summer I stumbled upon the Hasema swimsuit with the little dress on top. So far, this has been the best for my own use. It is cute, comfortable, and works well in the water. One thing to note, though, is that there are two versions of the suit. A 3 piece and a 4 piece. The one I like the best is the 3 piece. It is a full body suit with hijab and outer dress. What I don’t like about the 4 piece is that the top snaps at the croch, like a baby body suit, with separate pants. It does make it easier to use the toilet, but it just feels weird. Also, the hijab on the 4 piece I ordered was designed a little different, where it wraps around your neck and velcros at the back. Overall, this is a great suit if you are looking for something functional and stylish for leisurely swimming. The headpiece is not the best if you are going to be doing heavy swimming under the water, or if you have a small child that likes to grab at your hijab. [Thanks to Um Reem]

RubyZent:

Country of Origin: Singapore Website :http://www.rubyzent.com Description: Images rubyzent.jpg

I would like to give a review of Rubyz Swimwear. I ordered the Stripes, which is 4 pieces, a bodysuit top with long sleeves and skirt, comfy long pants, and a two part hijab w/ sporty cap. This is super-comfy and very practical even when diving underwater. Fabric is spandex/nylon and so it does stay close to your skin when wet! It doesn’t show any skin, because you wear the pants under the bodysuit piece, and has a zipper that goes all the way down past the waist. The hijab and suit design is very sporty looking and the fit is super comfy. The hijab can be a little tight after awhile, but it doesn’t budge in the water! I love this suit in the water, but am very self-conscious when lounging around at the beach, because the fabric fits like a regular swimsuit, which will reveal some feminine curves, but the pattern tries to conceal them.

Bodykini

Country of Origin: Spain Website: http://www.bodykini.com Description: Provides a perfectly uniform and elegant surface that enhances the beauty and style of garments, ensures maximum comfort and fit thanks to “four-way” stretch equal in all directions), aids the evaporation of body moisture and keeps the skin fresh and dry, ensures an effective anti-static effect, ensures the best aero-aqua dynamic performance in competitive sports, ensures maximum breathability, protection from UV rays (UPF+50), high chlorine resistance Images: bodykini-brown-orange-270.jpg Customer Reviews:

[From Anna] I bought the Bodykini because I liked the sporty look. Both are nice but they are different, the Bodykini is designed and cut differently around the shoulders so it is much more comfortable to wear especially around head as the headpiece doesn’t slip around even when you dive into the water head first! I am definitely pleased that I chose the Bodykini swimsuit. PS. I did not have to pay any customs to the UK when I ordered my Bodykini and the customer service was really good [Thanks to Anna] With choosing the Bodykini my wife’s dilemma on swimwear is solved. It is important to me that she is comfortable when we are in the pool. Interesting to see that there are many different styles of modest swimwear on the market. For my wife the Bodykini was the solution. I love her very much and want to thank Bodykini again for creating a swimsuit that makes her happy.

This is a lovely compilation for the sister. It’s good to see the selection is growing and becoming more competitive.

  2. Actually I swam in the swimming pools at the complex where I live, and havn’t met a life guard over there!! so no roblems il hamdillah 🙂

As for swimming in the sea, I found people staring at me the whole time! I looked like an alien for them…But I didn’t care…most of the women swimming around me where topless, so why would I care about the way they looked at me ;p

    To each his/her way…and I love mine:D

  3. Qwaider thanks I just someone in my neighbourhood gets one and joins me at our local pool 🙂

nido wallah it was ur blog entry that bolstered my confidence and made me get one and use use! seriously thank you :):):)

  4. Hi, I’d just like to commend you on a great compilation, but there are a couple you’ve missed out. I too, was desperate to go swimming with my hubby in the UK, but needed the right swimsuit first, Unfortunately, all the ones above were far too expensive and since I didnt know how comfortable I would feel in them, I didnt want to spend a blast and end up not using it at all.

So, I thoroughly researched the swimsuits and ended up with 2 possible options. One was the shop on e-bay: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Modest-Swimwear.
    The official website is: http://www.modest-islamic-swimwear.co.uk/
and the blog site where pictures are available is:
    http://modest-swim-wear.blogspot.com/

These are available for children (cheaper) and women for £35, with a long swimming cap/hood (tho not sure if these are included in the price)

The supplier is a Malaysian lady named Nur, and she also supplies the shop in manchester, Wilmslow Road called Islam Online. However, they didnt have any in stock when I visited, and since the lady was in Malaysia, although she offered to mail me one from there, I decided I would rather get something within the UK.

Which led me to stumbling upon D’Safa. Website: http://www.modestswimwear.co.uk/index.htm
Although a Malaysia based company, they also retail here in the UK (from Loughborough) and their rates and design really appealed to me. For about £27.00, they include the whole suit, plus a swimming hood as well as a swimming cap, and free shipping anywhere in the UK.
I also found their suit the most low-key and practical design compared to some of the other bright, flashy ones, as I would prefer for my suit to look like something made specially for swimming rather than being stopped by pool staff for wearing ‘home clothes’!

So without any further delay, I ordered one and I definitely am glad I did. I felt comfortable in the suit, and when dry it is very modest. The only time I did feel uncomfortable was when I had to shower before getting into the pool, as the showers were right near the pool and everyone there was obviously staring at this new swimming get-up, plus I had not put it through a trial run getting wet before, so I had no idea how decent/indecent I looked as it started clinging to my body… However, my husband assured me it looked fine and modest. Once in the water though, I had no problem although the staff at the pool did ask me not to hang around in the deep end too much as I am not a very strong swimmer. I dont know if this was because of the suit, or because they usually observe newcomers and warn them about the deep-end anyway if they feel they aren’t that confident, but I didn’t mind. After all, its been years since I was back in a swimming pool so was quite content to do half laps!

The only other ‘awkward’ moment was when getting out of the pool.. again this was largely due to me being very conscious of myself among a pool full of bikini-clad women and lots of men, and being stared at, as I felt the material was really clinging to me, but once again, hubby reassured me this was not so, and I should hold my head high and walk slowly and proudly out of the pool. I think it’ll take a few more sessions before Im bold enough to do that though.

I know this has been long, but I went through a very vigorous search for the right swimsuit, and I feel there may be many others out there in the same dilemma, so hope this has helped!

  5. Samah Thank you so much for your comment! I am sorry it took a while to appear on site but in got caught in the spam filter 😦

I will be updating this review in due course to include your suggestions.

    Thanks again 🙂

Burqini update: now around £65 in the UK.

Very good compilation. Keep it up.

  7. erm :s, just wondering, can you swim in a place where males are present too in this suit, as in, is it permissible? i mean, seeing where you live, because none of the people whom i know who like swimming would swim in a mixed swimming pool even with this suit, it might be more culture related than religious related, you know, but they say it’s also prohibited, thanks

  8. leen thanks for stopping by. I admit to being slightly confused, where do you think I live? and what do you mean by permissable?

I use the splashgrea suit and swim in mixed company, it is completely modest and I am comfortable. From my friends many were delighted at the invention of these. Others would not wear them in their own country due to cultural reasons. Others cry out haraam (they like doing that u see) and would not be caught dead wearing them, or be in mixed company with men full stop.

  9. right, i think i should’ve said Islamically permissible, and i meant the Islamic ruling over the issue considering your dwelling place, cause you know, there aren’t beaches or swimming pools for women in the UK, so it’s not rational to deprive people of going to these places when they are the only option. IMHO, I don’t think there’s anything wrong about it and i don’t understand these people’s reasoning.
“Others cry out haraam (they like doing that u see)”, you reminded me of this video

  10. sorry i pasted the wrong link,
    haraam

  11. :S this is the link:

  12. leen LOL, i love that guy 🙂

I think I kind of answered ur question then. However, it is not 100% true that the UK does not have women only pools. In London most of the pools on the London Fitness Network have women only sessions, and the lifeguards are women. BUT, at my local pool there are still men at reception + men staff sometimes walk through. So I could not wear a one or two peice suit. But it does mean the number of people is greatly reduced and i am only swimming with women. I have been to the mixed sessions and have swum in the beach. However the pools here get very croweded and I did not feel so comfortable swimming when there were alot of people, esp men… i.e. if crowded I would prefere it to be women only. Personal preference really.

  18. Just wanted to add my 2 cents…..

My first swimsuit (about 3-4 years ago) was one of the plasticky track suit types…..emphasis on the “icky”… it was horrible!!!! It was incredibly restrictive, and looked awful, but it was my only option at the time, so I endured the stares and dove in anyway.

Finally, a couple of years ago Aheda Zanetti came out with the Burkini. Thank you, Aheda!!! It was light years better than the plastic contraption.

Last summer I stumbled upon the Hasema swimsuit with the little dress on top.

This summer, I decided to look again, and WOW this Islamic swimwear market is really starting to pop. I ordered a couple from MyCozzie, and couldn’t wait to try them out.

My friend ordered the Splashgear version, and I wasn’t terribly impressed. It looks just like a plain rashguard sunshirt matched with a pair of polyester track pants. She hasn’t used it yet, so I cannot say anything about the functionality. Overall, though, with all of the other options to choose from, I decided not to order one for myself.

I am waiting for my AquaGym Zip Premium to arrive in the mail… any day now. My friend also ordered one from http://www.muslimahswimwear.com (which looks kind of like the Hasema number with the dress.) I’ll let you know how it goes with these new items.

AlhamdulAllah, thank God, for all of the companies entering the market, making it so much easier to be a Muslim woman and still enjoy swimming with my kids!!!!

    Happy Swimming!!!!

  19. Salaam Aleykum Sisters
I would like to add a link here for Burqinis available to ship worldwide from UK Stock

  20. Rukhsana Thank you 🙂

Um Reem Thank you so much, this is a wonderful review!! Have added your comments to the main article 🙂 btw: are u in the uk?

Um Alawi Thank you 🙂 This is a great website, and is tempting me to buy one.

I rather like the bodykini suit as well… so I think my next suit will either be a burqini or a bodykini… just to have a variety!

  21. I am not in the UK, but in the southern United States…. however, relocating next month to United Arab Emirates. Thanks for the great website, and for including my reviews!!!

  22. By the way…. the suits from Hasema, and now from AcquaGym can also be purchased more easily for those in the US by a lady in Virginia. Her website is…. http://www.primomoda.com (I’m sure she ships internationally as well…..)

  23. Thank you so much your website and thanks for all the sisters who share their reviews!
A question for UmReem, did you recieve your suit yet? The one shown at “primomoda” had a different pant style than that at acquagym website.
I really like their designs, especially the headpiece. And about sizing…do you order your regular dress/pant size? I have tried contacting them (acquagym) but there was no response. I live in the United States, do you have an idea about international transactions?I greatly appreciate your input since I long to go swimming again!

    Ghada

  24. Um Reem thank YOU for the great reviews, it really plumped up the post 🙂

Ghada ur welcome, glad u liked it 🙂

  25. Hi. Glad to help anyone learn from my trial and errors of online ordering!!!

Ghada: As far as international shipping, the only thing to make sure about is that if you order more than one suit, specify that it should be made in separate shipments. Customs gets a little worked up when you import something with a value over $200. My friend’s suits got held up in customs for about a week because both were shipped together. I also had this same problem when I ordered my first suit from Ahiida a couple of years ago, which came from Australia. I think it was held up for about a week as well, but I can’t remember if it was the price or if they just couldn’t figure out what in the world I had purchased.

On the sizing for Acuagym, if you click onto one of the suits that you like, then you should get a link with a sizing chart. The measurements are body measurements, and seem to be true to size based on the one that my friend orderd. I am surprised that you have not gotten a response, because he was very quick with my friend’s questions. His english is not fantastic, but you get the basic points, and he was very accomodating to what she wanted. He even said that they will custom make a suit in a different size if we wanted one for a larger size, or for a smaller child.

An update on the suit that my friend ordered from http://www.muslimahswimwear.com….. This has become a nightmare for her. She sent payment via paypal, and has been waiting ages. They responded to her inquiries once that something in their system crashed, and she sent back all the details, including a copy of her paypal invoice….. they have never been heard of since. I think she is getting ready to submit a grievance through paypal.

By the way…. Hasema is updating their styles, and they look quite interesting. I emailed primomoda.com to find out when they will be getting these new items, since I can’t read the Turkish from the hasema website, and the english version is not yet available… Anyway, primomoda said that the new suits are not yet available for purchase, and they are unsure if they will come in before the end of this summer season. Oh, well……

I couldn’t figure out how to paste the pics of the new hasema stuff, but at least here is the link…..

I went to the pool with my children today (10, 4 and 2), and wore my suit from ahiida. I must say that I even though the neck was a little tight, it was so much easier having the hood attached when my 2 little ones were grabbing away at my suit. I did’t have to fix the headpiece once!!!

  26. UmReem thank you soooo MUCH for your response, it’s much appreciated!!! I think I’ll go ahead and order the suit from them, I like their styles! Thanks again!!!

  27. Ghada: No problem….glad to help. InshAllah, you will be pleased and be able to enjoy the summer!

  28. Ghada: Just thought I would pass this on as well……

There is a conservative Christian lady here in the US, named Lisa, that produces modest swimwear. I had purchased a couple of suits for my daughters from her on eBay, and they were very cute and functional. She offered to customize a suit for me, and I decided to try it out. It just arrived a couple of days ago, and it is a beautiful suit, with pants, and a long-sleeve, high-necked top. From her website you choose your own fabric, and design it how you like. Her quality is great, prices are reasonable, and she is very easy to work with. The only piece that is missing from the suit is the headcover. I have several from other suits that I can mix and match, but probably with a little pressure, and some kind of pattern, she would make whatever you want.

    Here is her website: http://www.modestlyyoursswimwear.com

Here is also a link to a hat made of swimming material, with neck covering, made by an Australian company called Stingray, and is called the Nomad Hat. It is great to use with swimwear if you are just going to be playing in the water, and not necessarily diving in…..

    http://www.solartex.com/servlet/-strse-439/Stingray-Nomad-Hat/Detail

  29. Um Reem: Thanks again! I got hold of customer service at acquagym and she is very prompt and quite accomodating. For some reason they didn’t recieve the e-mails I sent at the e-store webpage but the one at the homepage worked. As a matter of fact I am going to order it today.

    I came across a similar website: http://www.modest-swimwear.net/

They can sell you the pattern if you wish to put the suit together (no experience required)! I guess with some modifications (it has short sleeves and open neck) it can look similar to the suits we’re ordering.
I am just glad that I finally came across these website that offer numerous designs and styles to choose from. I am glad that I have a choice!

  30. Um Reem wolud you please tell me how much did the duty fee cost your friend who ordered the original acquagym suit?

  31. Ghada: She did not wind up having to pay any additional duty. The problem was the time delay in receiving the products. The shipment didn’t fit neatly into a specific category at customs, and the lady at customs couldn’t figure out how to do the paperwork. I think in the end, she had to hand carry the papers and pkg to a supervisor (or something she referred to as a “live” process), instead of using the electronic process. It was just a pain, and took longer to receive.

There are several other companies in the US who make the modest type swimwear as well. Here is a link to a catch-all site that has links to other sites for modest/Islamic/Christian/Jewish clothing (including swimwear)….

    http://www.modestclothes.com/

  32. Um Reem: KINDLY APPRECIATED! You’ve been so helpful and resourceful in my search, thank you!
I came across a website that have faq section about duties and taxes and it was mentioned that orders valued at less than $200 are duty-free. So I am going with that and will order the suit Insha’Allah!

  33. Um Reem Mashallah! Your knowledge of all that available is really useful and comprehenisive 🙂 I plan on including ur latest comments and new hasema pics into the post… probably not for another week or so though, so bare with me 🙂

Ghada please let me know how it works out for you, thanks

  34. I hope that my obssessive searching on “Islamic” swimwear is helpful to many. Here is one last website that I will give for now. I haven’t used any of them, and she is closed until August, otherwise I would probably be tempted….. They look similar to the Hasema design with the dress, but the dress wraps a little differently, and the headpiece is also different. Anyway, if anyone has used one of these suits, please let me know. I probably won’t be online too often over the next month since I am finishing the final packing of my house for our overseas move, InshAllah, later this month.

  35. I ordered a suit from muslimah swimwear: http://www.muslimahswimwear.com….. over a week ago, and have not gotten any replies or acknowledgment form them. I am just warning you guys never to order from that website. I will be filing a grievance with Paypal
UmReem, can you let me know what happened with your friend’s grievence?

  36. Well, I recieved my acquagym swimsuit (http://www.acquagymbrazil.com) today and immmediately took a plunge! I love the color (purple with light print and trim)…it is the Comfort 105 in their lookbook. It looks very fashionable…

As for the fit, the pant fits very nicely (elegant fit), the top is a bit larger and reached to my knees (I am 5′ 2″)… slightly longer than on the model…which is fine with me.

    • SA Ghada,

I have been trying to reach Acquagym but i got a delivery failure message. Could you tell me how you got in contact with them, do you have an email i could use?
Also there isn’t any information on their website on prices or sizes, were you able to find this information?
      I’d really appreciate feedback 🙂
      Thanks

  37. Just an update on the suit I ordered a suit from muslimah swimwear: http://www.muslimahswimwear.com. I filed a grievance through paypal and the store refunded my money and apologized!! The store owner said that he was sick at the hospital for a while!!

  38. Assalaamu Alaikum,

I just happened across your review while searching for “islamic swimsuits” on google. I really love the review of the various suits. The only problem I have is that as a plus sized (and tall) sister the selection is far more limited for us subhanAllah. Water activities are a great source of exercise which I was hoping to incorporate into my routine, but I haven’t yet found a suit that was roomy enough for me to feel comfortable wearing it in mixed company. I live in the U.S. and there are no women only swimming facilities in my area thus requiring the need for a suit that is modest enough for my taste.

I hope the manufacturers will realize that us fuller sisters enjoy swimming as well and would love the opportunity to do so provided we had suitable attire inshallah.

    fee amanAllah

    UmmNadia

  39. Assalamu Alaykom Um Reem,

I recently ordered an acuagym swimsuit directly from their website. I haven’t received it yet though. I am just curious since it comes with just pants not a coverall, do I need to wear anything under it (bra, body, …etc)

Thank you in advance and jazakum Allahu khairan,

  40. Salaams Sister

I would firstly like to congratulate you on creating and maintaining a fantastic set of blogs about modest swimwear.

Secondly I would like to add that you have the wrong website stated for our UK online distribution (in regards to the Burqini®™). The correct details should be:

    Website: http://www.modestlyactive.com
    Email: info@modestlyactive.com
    Telephone: 0845 052 4686

If you have any queries sister, then please do not hesitate in contacting me directly on the email address supplied with this post.

  41. Nozad: How come you’re only getting the pants? I got a full suit (top and bottom)…if you wish you may wear a sports bra underneath.

UmmNadia: try contacting acquagym customer support or website: http://www.modestlyyoursswimwear.com (which UmReem have ordered from)….they are very accomodating and would custom made a suit to your fit. The one I have now (I reviewed above) is quite modest with a generous cut. I hope this information is helpful to you and you would find a swimwear that suit your needs and allow you to engage in this relaxing and fun activity!

  42. salamat and jazakum Allah khayrun to loolt for this precious resource. it’s wonderful to see that the need for functional and fashionable muslimah swimwear is finally being addressed and “splashgear” is proud to be a provider.

this post is to address umm-nadia’s comment regarding plus sizing and different inseam lengths. “splashgear’s” new SPORT LINE is now available and the “resort pants” are now offered in misses as well as plus sizes. both the “resort pants” and “la femme” are offered in three different inseam lengths. the “resort shirt” is also offered in misses and plus sizes, however “splashgear” is currently out of stock in the plus sizes of this shirt style (please check back later for availability).

once again, it’s very heart-warming to see that muslim women are now finally able to enjoy swimming with their family–it’s about time!

if anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to contact “splashgear” customer service.

UmReem Your ‘obssesive ‘ (ur word not mine 😉 ) searches for islamic swimsuits have been extremeley beneficial, and I will update these posts as soon as I can to include your excellent reviews.

Fida Thanks for the heads up!

Ghada Thank you so much for your review! Once I get the chance I will be updating this blog with your invaluable review 🙂

UmNadia I am pleased you found the reviews useful 🙂 I was going to suggest splashgear, as I knew they were planning on launching a plus size collection, but it seems their owner Shereen beat me to it 🙂 Thanks shereen!

Shazia Thanks for the information 🙂 For those who have come across this blog, I have contacted ahiida for confirmation of this information (please dont take offence shazia, I am just being pedantic), and we will hopefully receive a reply soon.

  44. […] swimsuit (looked like a space suit to quote one of my readers)… Now I found a great post on Talking virtually to myself, with reviews of a lot of different swimsuits for us hijabis, and where to get […]

  45. I also tried ordering from muslimahswimwear.com but never received any thing. I have filed a claim with Paypal and will try to get my money back. Please DO NOT ORDER from muslimahswimwear.com , its a scam.

  48. Hi there!

this is simply a great article! I am from Singapore and i came to your page after googling for islamic swimwear.

after reading all the reviews, i have just made a purchase from acquaqymbrazil. am eagerly waiting for its arrivel in 15 days.

will let you have my review when i receive it.

    🙂

  49. Sorry for the late response… I have just relocated from sunny southern US to even sunnier Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Fida: On the paypal grievance, my friend did also receive a refund. The shop owner emailed her about a week later to say that he had been in the hospital with “dingy fever”. I think paypal is the absolute best way to go on some of these newer foreign sites, because you just never know.

UmNadia: On your search for plus sized suits… Try contacting ahiida.com directly and ask them about plus sizes. I know she makes them, but why it is so difficult to find I’m not sure. I am 5’10” and quite busty. She asked for my measurements and then shipped out a size XXL, so I know they exist. Then length and fit were great, a little snug on the neck for the headpiece, but definately tolerable.

  50. What makes so many women think that the guy at the gym desk is drooling over them?

  51. What I mean is, not all men are drooling over all women at all times.

  52. Why don’t Muslim men have to come up with a body-covering swimsuit?

  53. justme as a quickie answer I would say that women have suffered from being sexually objectified, which has lead to their repression and harassment. Modest, or should non sexually provocative, clothes go some way to combatting this. Naturally one combines this with punishment for the perpetrators of this objectification, and in Islam men are supposed to ‘lower their gaze’. This is a partial rasionilisation of the seemingly strict dress code imposed on muslim women.

From my perspective i wonder why women want to dress provocatively on a daily basis? and just to be clear I am not generalizing western dress trends as provocative but it does seem to me that fashion is becoming increasingly more revealing. Each to their own though 🙂

finally, muslim men have to cover from their belly button to their knees.

  54. Hi .

Shukran so very much for this site!!!! i am so pleased to have come across it. I have obsessively been searching for a nice islamic swimsuit and will make my purchase based on the reviews posted here. It seems the hasema one is the most favoured. I found this website that sells hasema swimsuits: http://hasema-swimsuits.fotopages.com/?entry=1177456&page=0. The oficial website i cannot decipher.
Does anyone else have any ideas on how to buy hasema swimsuits i mean the latest designs are so stunning.!!

    thanks
    Fahms

  55. Thank you for this blog! I’m in the UK researching Islamic swimsuits so I can take one on holiday. The posts have provided lots of sites to choose from.

  56. how much does the Islamic swimming suit cost????

    • you’ll need to check on the site of each suit, as prices vary and can change, but in general they seem to range between £70 and £200.

  57. Assalamu Alykum
Would you know how/where I can buy the Hasema jogging suits? Their website is in Turkish only and I cannot get a response from them by email. Do you know of a place where we can get jogging suits with long jackets?
BTW, have the ahiida swimsuit, loose long fit, it is amazing!
    Salams,
    Umm Mosa

  58. umm mosa,
I know you can buy some of the Hasema jogging suits from http://www.primomoda.com. They still haven’t added the newest swimwear from Hasema,, though. Anyone know where you can buy these…as I still don’t read Turkish 😦

  59. um mosa wa Alykom Al-salaam 🙂 it seems Um reem has answered youur question, I hope that helps, because I dont know where to buy them. Thanks um reem for the reply, I wish I knew where you could get the newer ones!

  60. How-do-you-do honestly wanted to take a second to sound out I very much approve of your article ….

  61. Salaams, I work for a company called Modestly Active. Alhumdolliah they are distributors and designers of Islamic swimsuits and sportswear. 62. I love the selection they have on the aquagym website and I am interested in purchasing a few of their swimsuits. I was not able to figure out how to purchase any of thier suits online. I even pressed contact us but got an email failutre. Does anyone know how to order from them or contact them.

  63. Can someone tell me how/where to order aquagym swimsuits. i was not able to on their official website:http://www.acquagymbrazil.com/ . Thanks.

    • Hello,

I havent actually tried to order from them before, but if I come across another stockist I will update this post.

    • Hi Rana,

I had the same question before reading all the posts. Apparently the way to contact them is through their website, through Contact Us. I believe Ghada in a previous post said this is how she got in contact with them.
I’ve sent them an email today and hope to get a swimsuit, please let me know if you have any luck.
So far these are the swimsuits i like the most, also the ones on http://www.modestkini.com

  64. I once bought a pink catsuit + overall for swimming. It was made by a local company in the UAE. It was a skin-tight, one-piece pink spandex catsuit that tightly wrapped around my body from neck to ankle. And it was fully-sleeved and fully encompassed every area of my skin, except hands, feet, neck and face. It had a zipper in the back. The catsuit was covered by an overall dress, which was fairly light. It was good for swimming but very tedious when trying to undress/unzip and go to the toilet. There were many ranging shiny colors from pink to green to blue to yellow. The place I go to has women-only days, 2 times a week, although there are some young male kids in the presence. Some of us found the suits so comfy that we also used them for aerobics sessions before the swimming pool hours were open.

I must also point out that the catsuit comes with an attached hood/hijab, tight-fitting. The downside is it’s tedious to use when going to the toilet. Also, the catsuit + dress combination is definitely workable but there are some women who completely disregard the overall and they just swim in their catsuits. Luckily, a new rule is going to be passed next week banning anymore catsuit-only swimsuits. They must be hidden underneath the overall, even on womens-only days.

    • thanks for the info, do you remember what the suit was called? what make/company makes them?

      • Unfortunately, all I know is that it was local-made. The shopkeeper in Sharjah told me it was made by a company based in the Emirates. She also showed me the other line of products they made and they looked exactly identical to my Islamic swimsuit, only they were in different colors. The tag at the back of the catsuit only says “made in UAE”. I tried searching on google but just couldn’t find anything. Bear in mind this company has supposedly went through financial problems since 2009, at least according to what I’ve heard other people say. But it was making lots of sales back in 2006-2008. I’ve seen so many women in Sharjah and other cities wearing the swimsuits in public beaches, mixed pools and gender pools.

I think one of the reasons why it lost popularity is because some local authorities started to ban the suits. The UAE is a bit complex. While Dubai is fairly open or liberal, other cities and emirates aren’t so much the same. I know that many people in Sharjah complained about some of the misbehavior of a few hijabis who began to use the catsuits as a fashion statement in public places, as well as others not wearing the overall in the gyms or when leaving the gyms. Some simply cover their catsuits with the abaya when leaving the gym and I began hearing all sorts of rumors about them walking in their neighborhoods and local supermarkets while only dressed in the skin-tight catsuits. I guess those women were simply wearing Islamic swimsuits due to peer pressure instead of actually believing in the proper cause.

So that’s basically one reason why the trend died down. Those people simply started joining clubs in neighboring Dubai and its not like they need any ‘Islamic swimsuits’ over there since they don’t want to wear them properly and Dubai is fairly liberal so it suits their needs. Rather unfortunate, really…

(Sorry for that long reply. I have a bad habit of writing too much. XD)

  65. Hey sis, I just spoke to one of my friends from the club today and she told me the company was called ‘UAE Swim-wear’ and the suit’s name was ‘Islamic Unitard’.

  66. Thank you so much for this great compilation of websites.
I’m in the Netherlands and trying to find a place to order a swimsuit and your website has been a great help.
I also found the website for the retailer for Burkinis in Europe.
    http://www.woortmansportswear.com/index1.html
They are also located in the Netherlands but ship to Europe and i think North Africa,if anyone is interested.

  68. Thank yo for great blog. I love it.
Do you know where I can buy a 3 piece swimsuit under $60.

    Thanks a bunch,
    Lisa

  69. Wow this is just sad 😦

  70. You really make it appear so easy along with your presentation however
I to find this matter to be really something that I feel I might by no means understand.
It sort of feels too complex and very large for me. I’m taking a look ahead to your subsequent publish, I will try to get the hang of it!

  71. I was researching for tips for my blog site and discovered your
post, “Reviews of Islamic Swimsuits | Talking Virtually To Myself” blackout blinds ,
will you care in the event that I implement several of your own ideas?
    Many thanks ,Ebony

  72. Assalamaleikum, JazakAllah Khair for the great reviews. I have never worn an Islamic swimsuit myself but I own an online Islamic clothing store http://www.chosenpathabayas.com. I was approached by various swimsuit manufacturers to carry their products on my site. Your reviews helped me to choose Hasema, especially since no one is carrying this brand here in Canada. Thanks once again. I shall look forward to your new posts.
